Has anyone read?
I have just finished rereading, ‘One Way Ticket’ by Cindy Wockner & Madonna King [published by Harper Collins ABN 36 009 913 517. Price $AUD29.95] and am wondering if anyone else has read it and thinks the history of the Bali Nine prior to their arrests colours why they got involved?
There is a chapter on the role of the AFP giving both the police and the public sides of the argument that Australians were handed over to the Indonesians knowing the consequences they faced, rather than detaining them on their return to Australia.
The authors were in court for the trials and sentencing, so they had first hand experience of the courtroom reactions of the Bali Nine and their families. I found their reporting of the judges’ comments revealing too.
It is difficult to maintain public interest in the Bali Nine when nothing appears to be happening, but it is at just such times that they need too know they haven’t been forgotten. Discussions of, or comments on this book might make some of us look differently at these young people.
