Default Whatever it takes...

The following was taken from the editorial in today’s Sydney Morning Herald:

>>...At the same time as expressing regret that nothing could be done about Mr Bashir's acquittal, Mr Howard seemed to be offering families of the Bali victims the consolation that the fanatics who carried out the crimes were awaiting execution. Nothing about his "principled" objection to the death penalty there, and no comfort to the Australians on death row in Bali for offences much less serious than blowing up 202 people.....<<

You can’t, as we say in Australia, have it both ways - Australia does not have the death penalty and having our Prime Minister effectively say he has no problem with the Bali Bombers being executed, but doesn’t want the same fate for Australians is sophistry.
We have a federal election due this year and, as with politicians everywhere, ours parrot opinions they think will pull in votes.
That the Bali bombings and drug couriering are two very different things, should not encourage anyone to demand punishments that goes against Australian law.
