You simply cannot compare these 2 cases!
Saddam deserved what came to him and more!!
The Bali 9 were silly, influential, probably broke young people who made a single bad decision. And yes they should have known the punishment that fit their crime before the decided to comit it but that's in the past and we all make mistakes (albeit not as bit as this!!)
They deserve the right to live and be rehabilitated and hopefully become good citizens and help and warn others in their suituation of the potential dangers or bad choices.
Their sentences are far to severe and have been handed down by a corupt and ancient justice system.
I do support the death penalty in certain cases like that of convicted (without a doubt) serial killers who recieve life and spend the remainder of their years living (quite comfortably in some countries) off the taxpayer!!
I don't believe in murder for murder but some of these so called humans are just animals and no amount of rehabilitation will ever help them and they will never be able to live in society.
The Bali 9 are not murderers, the drugs they carried could have killed someone but that someone who was silly enough to use, would have got it someware else the following week anyway, or it could have gone to everyday users and not done any harm, who knows??
Some people may thing some of my views are wrong and contradictory, but as I said they are MY views......
Peace
x

Country Laws
I Think that the penalty is a bit much. but at the same time. these people went to this country knowing what the laws were and broke them. would you like it if somebody broke your laws and then got away with it?

well i personally would be a bit offended if someone came into this country and took advantage of our lenient system and broke our law, then got away with it...
but i certainly would not like to see them shot dead!!! or to suffer years of being locked away, forgotten and mistreated...

he deserved everything he got,the lesson learned here is there is no room in the world for evil despots like saddam....sometimes the death penalty is the only answer for these people..why not save your sympathy for all the people he gassed when he dropped the poison gas on the kurds,or the guy he put thru a plastic shredder feet first when he was alive! ...now that is cruel and sensless, and boy thats gotta hurt!......saddam was like a rabid dog who needed putting down......

AND WHAT ABOUT BUSH, HOWARD, AND BLAIR? THEY DON'T EVEN GET A TRIAL LET ALONE A PENALTY. SADDAM WAS AN "EVIL DESPOT", NO MORE THAN ANY WESTERN WORLD LEADER. THE DIFFERENCE IS WESTERNERS DON'T HAVE ANY BOUNDARIES. WORLD POLITICS SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN OUR SCHOOLS IF YOUNG VOTING AUSTRALIANS ARE TO HAVE A FAIR GO AT MAKING GOOD CHOICES FOR THEMSELVES. THE DEATH PENALTY HAS NO PLACE IN CIVILIZED SOCIETY. TEN YEARS AGO IN YEAR 12 LEGAL STUDIES I HAD TO DO MY CAT ON THE DECRIMINALIZATION OF MARIJUANA. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE BENEFICIAL TO LEARN WHAT THE LAWS ARE IN OUR NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES. INSTEAD I HAD TO RESEARCH THE PROS AND CONS OF WHAT THE LAW SHOULD BE IN THIS ONE. PEOPLE HAVE A FAIRLY RELAXED ATTITUDE TO MARIJUANA IN THIS COUNTRY. IT IS HANDED DOWN TO US THROUGH OUR SCHOOL SYSTEMS. THE TRIALS OF AUSTRALIANS BEING ARRESTED ABROAD SHOULD BE STUDIED IN SCHOOLS. I DON'T ONLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT MY RIGHTS ARE IN THIS COUNTRY. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE WHEN I TRAVEL.

They tried to profit off a substance which causes so much sadness and death, plus how many of the Bali 9 have criminal records - they knew what they were doing, and what the drug does.
Thumbs down.....

that being said Freckles... i do agree that they knew what they were doing... but i feel that the death sentence, a life sentence and a 20 year sentence is extreme...
a good kick up the backside and a fairer sentence is more acceptable...

If these half-wits are removed from the gene pool perhaps it isn't such a bad thing.

That could be said of many people, even some who post here, but I would fight for their lives just as hard as for the Bali 3.

I feel sick reading replies such as;
"If these people are taken out of the gene pool maybe it's not such a bad thing"
Sounds like something Adolf Hitler would have said nearly 100 years ago.
No one but the drug user can be blamed for thier addiction. If it were not heroin, it would be a. n. other drug the user was addicted to.
Anyone who thinks the death penalty or life imprisonment is a suitable punishement for drug offenses has mental health problems.
