Ok mini... are you trying to stir up an argument... really...
I do intend on reading the book... and even when I do read it my views on the Death Penalty will not change... nor will my opinion on the Bali 9...
But...
More of my opinion: I am fully aware of the claims that the other members were afraid of Chan and Sukumaran - as I understand (going by what I have read in our media and viewed on our tv) they apparently were the ringleaders and rather bullying in nature. I do believe they themselves were the victims of the same bullying from a higher source. ALL of the Bali 9 were nothing more than couriers - pawns actually... in the drug trafficking game.
... and mini... you tell me to look at the big picture... i think you need to look at the big picture my friend - it goes way beyond the Bali 9.
Chan and Sukumaran needed a "foot up the backside" to wake themselves up - and trust me they have certainly got that now... I still don't think they deserve to die for their crime.
My heart bleeds for them, for the rest of the Bali 9, for Schapelle Corby, Holly Deane-Johns... every single Australian incarcerated overseas... the families of those incarcerated... every single person that is facing the Death Penalty... all the starving children all over the world... the abused children... animal cruelty... etc... etc... my heart bleeds to keep me alive!!!
The Bali 9 feared for their lives before imprisonment and they fear for their lives during their imprisonment...
Oh and for your information mini... you stated if it wasn't for Chan and Sukumaran there would be no Bali 9... utter utter crap... if there was no Bali 9 it would have been someone else... as long as drugs are being produced there will always be a pawn or 2 or 9 or whatever, sitting on Death Row. You can't tell me that Chan and Sukumaran chose the other 6 and bullied them because they felt like it... the other 6 were not innocent... they all got themselves involved, and their naivety got them into a hopeless situation that was seemingly impossible to get out of. All of them have faced up to their mistake and admitted their own guilt and involvement. They all deserve a chance to redeem themselves. Not all of them have had the ideal life in the perfect world, and I guess they were pretty much sucked in with temptation like overseas trips, mobile phones, money and the thought of eventually acquiring a better life.
The drug trafficking will never stop as long as the pawns are being killed off... there'll always be someone to replace them...
